Reflection: Firelei Baez An Open Horizon or the Stillness of a Wound
From watching this video, I found it very intriguing how the idea of the form and its observation can lead to different themes within art. Within Firelei Baez’s artwork, she captured the features of the body and fauna with the details of her artworks. These organic features are then juxtaposed with the blueprints of industrial architecture, creating a dynamic balance between the natural and the man-made. I found this type of balance of the organic and the man-made interesting and almost similar to my artistic practices. Specifically, I also layer a paper drawing onto a photograph just like how Baez uses paints to layer onto a blueprint. Overall, this video primarily shows how significant detail and history can go into an artwork and how the balance of subject matter can add an interesting aesthetic to an art piece.
