Thesis Proposal

When considering the themes of my thesis, I hope to articulate the themes of independence, rebirth, and even the theme of having an outsider mentally within my artwork. These themes will be presented in the subject matter of outlaws in the Wild West due to these themes complementing the subject matter that I want to explore.  The materials that I would like to work with for my thesis would be cardboard, bristol paper, and felt markers.  The reason I chose these materials is due to having previously used cardboard for my projects, and this material reflects my old way of thinking. The bristol and markers represent my new way of thinking and they will be drawn and then cut out. This component illustrates the artwork's theme of independence and outsider perspective of feeling out of place in a setting. To create this artwork, I will primarily focus on collage and diorama work, blending elements of the old with the new with my style of creation. The three key influences artists that inspired me for this artwork are KAWS, Takeshi Murakami, and David Shringley. I chose KAWS for the subtitle expressions of his characters and the nature of his graffiti work. Takashi Murakami mainly due to his "super flat" style of artwork that focuses on bright colors and David Shringley for the humor of his artwork and his cynical perspective of his artwork. For this artwork, I envision two features such as a diorama and then an interactive sculpture that also interacts with the diorama. Overall, this artwork may seem ambitious for now but, through research and planning I hope to bring this idea to life.
